Wild Bill of Hahamongna

by Mademoiselle Gramophone

What I like most about my iPad is that I can plan paintings and mix colors in advance.

November 13, 2011 at 1pm, the tribe of the Haha far and wide will attend a memorial service for Wild Bill aka Road Kill Bill.

Wild Bill was a transient man that found shelter and comfort in the wilderness. He existed there and died there in tune with nature except on the occasions when he pulled away from the squadron and lit up a fire pit to stay warm while drunk on his ass. Managing fuego under any circumstance is a serious responsibility and it requires high alert attentiveness, and not the incompatible high when under the influence or being otherwise… out of touch.

So, while Wild Bill’s wacky behavior was sometimes curbed by responsible citizens, so shall same citizens curb the sometimes reckless behavior of elected public officials.

A human doesn’t have to be drunk to be stupid.

Reverence for nature. Pour your love for the wilds of Hahamongna into protecting it and don’t worry that the only witnesses to her beauty have expired.

THE ALIENS
from The Last Night Of The Earth Poems

you may not believe it
but there are people
who go through life with
very little
friction of distress.
they dress well, sleep well.
they are contented with
their family
life.
they are undisturbed
and often feel
very good.
and when they die
it is an easy death, usually in their
sleep.

you may not believe
it
but such people do
exist.

but i am not one of
them.
oh no, I am not one of them,
I am not even near
to being
one of
them.
but they
are there

and I am
here.

CHARLES BUKOWSKI, member of the Haha tribe.

  1. He looks like a member of the Manson Family, but so what? They were local… sort of.

  2. It is ridiculously early this Sunday morning and I feel sleep-deprived, but thank you for this diversion before I go back to bed to rise in 2 hours for church. A trip down memory lane! Seeing these photos and movie clips remind me of a too distant youth spent watching cowboys fighting Indians. I root for the “Indians” now. They should have been called natives and we should have let them be! The earth was less damaged by their style of living. However, now they are confined to “reservations” They did not need one to get in however. But with them in charge where would I be? Somewhere between England and Sweden?

  3. I love this post in so many ways words escape me.

  4. Aw, there’s my dog. You caught her studious side so well. I don’t know how, given all the time I spent riding in the Haha, Wild Bill escaped my notice. Or maybe I did meet him from time to time, and he just didn’t seem that wild to me.

  5. I wondered what he looked like. You’re the only one I’ve found who’s posted a photo. He looks familiar but like Karin, maybe I didn’t notice him any more than anyone else because he didn’t seem other than normal. Nice to include him with Phoebe, sweet soul.

  6. Thank you for the nice response. The photo can be snagged here:

It would be nice to do an art project with everyone’s version of this photo, and then add all of the beautiful stories people that knew him are telling.

  7. I never tire of telling people I once met Charles Bukowski but I did and this is one poem that really seems like it was written by the man I met. Not even slightly drunk, courteous, introduced me to his wife, made a small joke, told to me to not stop writing and then remembered my name when we parted.

Anyway, I’m glad Phoebe is with such illustrious company.

    • -k-, Do you remember the little joke? What was Linda wearing? Was he wearing a Hawaiian shirt? Did Buk look at you with thise washed out gray-greenish-blue eyes? When was it? Where? Did he read something you wrote? What was the event? Did you talk to him first or… ?

I will never tire of asking about it.

  8. I came to gush over Phoebe’s portrait. ( I”m her far removed Auntee), but I’m fascinated by the entire painting. We saw David H ockney’s exhibit of iPad art in Paris last Jan. Yours is far better, but don’t tell David!
